Andrew Drown was born and raised on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia. This was also where his parents gave him an SLR and he discovered photography. He completed an undergraduate degree in marine biology at the University of Victoria and while studying, took a course entitled “Elements of photographic composition”, which gave structure to his creative process. Over the next 5 years he explored photography, while working as a fisheries observer, travelling to Australia, and working as an ESL instructor in Thailand. Before moving to Toronto, Andrew finished teacher's college at the University of Victoria, and completed a 10-month teaching contract in France. He currently teaches French immersion Math at King Edward Public School. Through his experiences, photography has become a source of meditation, expression and communication.
